If we had to "work" or do things to earn salvation how would we ever know if we have done enough? Salvation, eternal life is available to all - if you trust in what Jesus did on the cross - just trust, and have faith in Jesus Christ.
Salvation comes from God, it is He that opens our eyes, softens our heart and draws us to Him, then it is our free choice to accept His free gift or not.
