For anyone who suffers from Migraines - I have spent the last 25 years suffering from migraines. My family physicians, of course, went directly to their prescription pads to 'offer' me relief from the pain instead of trying to figure out why I was getting them. They all assumed it was hormonal based. Finally, I went to a naturopath last fall and she did a complete blood work-up. Found out I was borderline anemic. She advised me to add more iron to my diet. After finally getting into a good habit of iron intake, I did not get the expected 7 day migraine that I routinely get around my cycle. However, it did pop its ugly head for 1 day after I did not get any iron for breakfast the previous day. I went back to my iron rich breakfast and... no headache. 25 years of prescriptions... when I could have just added more iron to my diet. Sooo frustrating! Hope this helps someone...
I once suffered from migraines, [as did my mother (who would occasionally be hospitalized), sister (on injectible Imatrex), and a son], and participated into a study of Cafergot. That was a medicine for arthritis and those who also had migraines found they were gone. I was lucky and had the real thing and after a few months never had another one. Had to quit taking after a few years as was high in caffeine and doctor said not good for my heart. BUT it broke the cycle and have never had another.
