The Great Galveston Storm of 1900 was the deadliest weather-related catastrophe in U.S. history inundating the entirety of Galveston Island with a 15-foot storm surge, taking the lives of an estimated 6,000 to 12,000 souls. Hurricane Katrina's (2005) storm surge was the same.
