Christmas trees use toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers for years before harvesting. According to the Center for Biological Diversity, eight pesticides make up 85 percent of all uses on Christmas trees: chlorothalonil, atrazine, simazine, glyphosate, hexazinone, carbaryl, chlorpyrifos, and dimethoate. These chemicals have numerous adverse health effects, including cancer, hormonal (endocrine) disruption, neurotoxicity, organ damage, reproductive/birth defects, asthma, and more. Furthermore, North Carolina State University finds a majority of conventional Christmas tree farms in North Carolina use the prevalent weedkiller glyphosate (Roundup), and the insecticide bifenthrin to treat 97.5 and 42.9 percent of all tree acres, respectively. The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans.”
Pine needles and bark can harbor pesticide residues that are not only toxic to humans but pets as well. The most widely used pesticide in Christmas tree production, glyphosate, is systemic and plant roots and leaves absorb the chemical into the vascular system. These chemicals can leach out in sap (guttation) and contaminate tree water, thus exposing curious children and pets to toxic chemicals if playing around the tree or, in the case of animals, drinking the water.

Right now, corporations like Bayer’s Monsanto are leaning on Congress to add an amendment to the 2023 Farm Bill that would overturn all state and local pesticide laws.
If this amendment is allowed to pass, it would eliminate state and local laws that go further than the EPA in restricting pesticides. These laws are designed to protect populations who are most vulnerable to the effects of toxic pesticides, such as farm and agricultural workers and school children who play on fields.

greenmedinfo.comI live 168 miles from the East Palestine at the Northern border of WV, near Cumberland, MD. Ever since Tuesday, Feb. 13th, I have been experiencing burning face and eyes. The air had a strong chemical smell on Tuesday. I checked the wind direction on https://www.ventusky.com and it showed the winds were coming down from East Palestine that day. There has also been reports of more smoke plumes from the site erupting earlier last week.
I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities and react to the slightest toxic exposure. People with MCS are often referred as the "Canary in the Coal Mine". If there is anything wrong, a MCS person can detect it.
I still can't go outside without my eyes and face burning. The chemicals are there, but not enough for an average person to detect it.
