Have we, or someone we know, ever felt forsaken, despised, abandoned, alone, or unseen and unloved. We read about such a person in Genesis 16:1-16.
Hagar was only known to her owners as a slave (maid or servant) in Genesis 16:5 & 6 (my slave; your slave). Wow, that would make one feel good about themselves… not!
After being treated harshly by her owner, Hagar fled to the desert… only to be found by the Angel of the Lord… who called her by her name “Hagar”! Heaven knows our name!
We may feel like no one cares, no one understands, no one even knows we are alive… but, our God in heaven does. After the Angel of the Lord prophesied over her, Hagar called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, EL ROI, the God-Who-Sees.
The Hebrew el means “God; strength, mighty, the Almighty, power, strong”,, and roi (roiy or ro-ee) means “sight, see”. Regardless of what we are going through or how we feel, our loving Father sees; He hears; He cares… He knows us by name.
And that gives us hope… hope that does not disappoint (Romans 5:5). Starting and ending our day remembering our God is faithful (Heb 10:23; I Thess 5:24) and IS the God-Who-Sees, will propel us, lift us, into joyous praise and thankful worship of our EL ROI.
