Section 1, Answer from Student Level
Tie coat is a step in the tai chi form as a hand form in Tai Chi for Arthritis TCA . This hand form step appears in the tai chi form of Sun12 or TCA. Some authors use the name Sun 12 as the Tai Chi for Arthritis TCA is an adapted form of Sun Style Tai Chi from the extended Sun 73 form. The original adaptation of Dr. Lam for TCA has changed somewhat over the years. My first thought was that the new students in TCA were looking at their hands and bending down, unconsciously following their downward hands with their backs. One of my Yang24 teachers emphased to new students to look at the clock high up on the wall in front of class, as a cure for awkward bending down or bending forward in some movements, especially complex hand movements like pat horse and single whip.
